Old Sarum, Wilthire

Old Sarum

While staying at The Edwardian Lodge Bed & Breakfast why not visit the Iron Age hill fort of Old Sarum, later reused by the Romans, Saxons and Normans before growing into one of the most flourishing settlements in medieval England. This fascinating and dramatic site contains the ruins of a castle, cathedral and bishop's palace.

Just 10 minutes drive from The Edwardian Lodge Hotel is Wilton House, the 450 year old stately home of the 17th Earl of Pembroke, set in twenty one acres of magnificent landscaped parkland. The house provides many state rooms which house a world famous art collection including works by Van Dyck, Reynolds, Brueghel and Rembrandt.

Avebury is the largest stone circle in the world: it is 427 metres in diameter and covers an area of 28 acres. A great ring of 98 sarsen slabs enclosing two smaller circles of 30 stones each and other settings and arrangements of stones.
